Okay, so you have a wine with flavors and characteristics that fit your palate. Now all you have to do is pull the cork, and pour the wine into another object. You can use anything from a $7.25 mason jar from Walmart, to a $495 crystal decanter from Neiman Marcus. A standard wine glass works well too. But an object with a wide opening works best because it allows more oxygen to mix with the wine.
When the oxygen hits the wine it starts to break down the alcohol while opening up the wines intended flavors. The amount of time you let the wine sit varies depending on the type of wine you are drinking.
You can really tell the difference if you let the wine sit for a few minutes. Try tasting the same bottle of wine, just in 15 minute increments to see the difference.
Remove the cork and pour a small (or not) amount in three glasses.
Pick one of the glasses and begin to drink it immediately after opening the bottle. Let the other two glasses with wine sit.
After 15 minutes drink the second glass.
Finally, after another 15 minutes drink the final glass.
Make a mental (or write it down, but I’ve read plenty of posts telling me to write things down... and I know how that goes) note of what you taste during each glass. At this point 30 minutes have passed from your first and third glasses. Compare them.
Was there a difference in taste?
